Chevalier Boturini; he spent several years investigating the antiquities of Mexico and Central America, and collected many valuable records, of most of which he was despoiled by the Spanish; he published a work on the subject of his studies in 1746. His mention of a "great eclipse" at the time of the crucifixion has reference to the "darkness over all the land" (Matt. 27:45), which could not have been due to a solar eclipse, as this phenomenon is possible only at new moon, and the Jewish Passover, in the time of which the crucifixion occurred, came at full moon.
