Mormons study the Bible two out of every four years of scripture study. We love the Bible. We teach the gospel of Christ the way it was originally taught by Him. Several things have happened to the Bible: 1) Jewish leaders around 90 A.D. changed it to delete references to Christ from what we now call the Old Testament. (We believe that every prophet who has lived and taught on the earth knew of and testified of Christ.) 2) When the creeds were adapted by the Christian Church (Nicaean and Athanasian), some verses were changed to uphold the belief in a trinity. Mormons accept more of the Bible than any Christian faith. We believe that the gospel was understood by Adam, including the coming atonement, and that the gospel plan has been presented from the beginning. We therefore really make use of the Old Testament, which many Christians completely ignore or misunderstand. We also give credence to the writings of James, which Lutheranism and other sects reject. We understand some New Testament doctrines that other Christians avoid because they have so little information. For instance, Paul talks about baptism for the dead, and Peter talks about a continuing priesthood and addresses the men who hold it, when modern Christian Churches claim that Christ was the last holder of the priesthood. We do not emphasize Joseph Smith more than Christ. Christ is our savior, mediator with the Father, and judge of us all; He died for our sins. He provided resurrection for both the wicked and the just; He exalts those who repent and believe in Him.
